Each year, the Toledo Professional Chapter of The Association for Women in Communications (AWC) offers two scholarships to promising communications students.

Both scholarships are named in honor of Lee Z. Steele. Lee Z. Steele is remembered as the highly regarded religion editor of The Blade, working in the communications field for over 40 years. She was also a founding member of Toledo AWC and served as the first president of the Toledo Professional Chapter. Lee's dedication to AWC and to helping women achieve high standards in the communications profession spanned a generation and she mentored countless young women in their careers.

Since 1986, the Toledo AWC Chapter has awarded scholarships in Lee Z. Steele's name each year to outstanding students in communications. This year the award is for $1000 for one student.

The deadline for consideration for the 2007 Lee Z. Steele scholarships is Friday, September 30, 2007. A committee of communications professionals will determine scholarship winners. Scholarship winners will be notified by telephone in October.
